U4GM Diablo 4 Prime Ribs and Splinters Explained
Wasting a farming session on the wrong material is frustrating, especially when several rewards share similar names. Before sorting through Diablo 4 Items, separate your goals: Prime Ribs summon Moophisto, Prime Evil Splinters support seasonal powers, and Soul Splinters belong in jewelry sockets.
Prime Ribs Start With a Quest Reward
For your first summon, take the Wounded Townsman's quest outside Old Tristram's northern Cathedral. Defeat the Butcher in the opening area of The Labyrinth in Scosglen to collect five Prime Ribs. Then head east from Tyrael's Encampment to the Altar of the Heifer. Entering the Bovine Sanctum and paying five ribs at its inner altar are separate interactions. This quest route suits players preparing their first encounter; repeat farming comes from the Cow King inside the Secret Cow Level.
1. Save the quest reward for your first Moophisto summon.
2. Return to the Cow King when you need additional offerings.
3. Treat the Bell of the Bovine as a possible reward.
Prime Evil Splinters Need a Specific Target
Terror belongs to Diablo, Destruction to Baal, and Hatred to Mephisto. Finish the seasonal questline before settling into repeat runs. Afterward, replayable Waking Nightmares, Hell versions of Prime Evil dungeons, and seasonal reputation caches provide collection opportunities. Targeting the corresponding boss gives your sessions a clear purpose. Reputation rewards offer another route, but neither approach promises a fixed number of attempts. This is the progression track for players pursuing Prime Evil powers.
Soul Splinters Reward Matching Reserve Runs
For socketable Soul Splinters, inspect Nightmare Dungeon Gem Reserves instead. Ruby targets Anguish, Topaz targets Sin, Sapphire targets Lies, and Emerald targets Pain. Skull corresponds to the Mother, Diamond to Hellfire, and Amethyst to Damnation. Escalation Sigils let you inspect subsequent dungeon choices for the matching Reserve affix. Keep matching types and rarities for the Horadric Cube's Amalgamation upgrades. This route suits players refining jewelry rather than unlocking seasonal powers.
1. Check the Reserve affix before committing to another dungeon.
2. Keep matching Soul Splinters together for later upgrades.
3. Separate socket upgrades from your chosen Prime Evil Splinter.
Check Progression Before Extending Your Farm
The October 14, 2026 update, patch 3.2.3, prevents premature Prime Evil Splinter use but does not repair previously affected quest progress. For an affected character, finish the seasonal questline on another character within the same Normal or Hardcore and standard or Solo Self-Found partition.
Before another run, match the reward to your actual objective. That distinction matters more than repeating whichever encounter your character can currently clear fastest.
| Goal | Priority route |
|---|---|
| Moophisto summons | Prime Rib collection |
| Prime Evil powers | Corresponding seasonal encounters |
| Jewelry improvements | Matching Gem Reserves |
Choose Your Next Session by Its Reward
Start with the quest ribs for Moophisto, pursue the relevant Prime Evil for seasonal progression, or inspect Reserves for socket upgrades. If you also intend to buy Diablo IV Items, keep that decision separate from these farming requirements. Set one objective before heading out.
